"Living Electrically" is meant to capture the spirit of the 1920s when electrification of households held out the promise of reduced labour and better living brought about through various conveniences. It was also the time when mass market consumerism was being incubated, and mass media advertising promised better living through purchasing.
For my Master's Thesis in History, I studied the time between the two world wars, and looked in detail about the promises made and the realities of daily living. I entered my research with some preconceived notions about what I would find, but my research completely changed my point-of-view.
This blog is my personal observation of the world we inhabit in a digital age. Though a pessimist by temperament, I think I live in a wonderful age, under girded by an impressive technological infrastructure. There is much to rejoice and much to criticize, so let the blogging begin.
